Locketship at Mercon + New design launch!

Mercon 2011

Yes, another Mermaid post!  Since the Mermaid collab with Locketship was selling so swimmingly (HUR HUR HUR!) Miss Maria decided to take part in an amazing event, the first ever Mercon!  Yes, that’s right~ a MERMAID themed convention! I could not attend the event, but I jumped at the chance to work on a new mermaid piece to launch at the event with Locketship.  A lot of people had requested another design with a mermaid girl + her tail in the piece~  so after a bit of sketching on how to work this out so she fit cute in the circle shape of the jewelry pieces + would still be easy to see at such a small size~ I came up with this little lady:

Miss Kika Mermaid for Locketship

I am really happy with how the colors came out + the fact I got that tail worked in ok! You can buy her online now through the Locketship online shop HERE in the following designs

~ ON SALE NOW!~

Locketship's amazing table!

So anyway, Back to Mercon…  It sounded like an amazing event!  It was held in Las Vegas at the Silverton Mermaid Hotel  ( which has a 117,000 gallon Mermaid Tank! WHAAAAT!?) with vendors, fashion shows, Mermaid celebrities and the end of the day they had a really awesome mermaid pool party!  The always lovely Maria (locketship), Stephanie (Zilla), Stephiee (Dolly Beast) and Miss Bebe flew over from LA to attend the event and be adorable at the booth!

Kudos to Locketship + Mercon for the event photos! Check out the blog post by Maria on the event over at Buzznet HERE for more details and fun pics!

Kittens and Ice cream

Bit of a late post, but I was waiting till all the photos started to appear online before I shared this event with everyone! For JapanLA’s 5th Year Anniversary Party on June 4th(first party at the new giant location on Melrose Ave. in LA!) they had the most amazing event and gallery show with over 500+ people showing up~ “Kittens and Ice cream”! The party was filled with all sorts of contests (like “Craziest Cat Lady”) with prizes donated from San X, Food trucks, goodies, games, and of course~ the art show.  Participating artists included Bei Badgirl, Twinkie Chan, Gary Baseman, Camilla d’Errico, Eimi, Buffmonster, and many more!  A % of art sales even went to charity to help less fortunate kitties ♥

My contribution to this show was Pretty Persian Parfait which I had printed as a yummy giant giclee canvas (one of a kind)

Title: Pretty Persian Parfait
Medium:  Giclee varnished & stretched canvas print

As usual the girls looked amazing and themed from head to toe!

Bunnies and Bows Show

Another amazing event at Japan LA~  the theme? Bunnies and Bows!!  This event on ♥ May 7th ♥ was curated by my lovely friend Michelle aka Chubby Bunny (aka the brain behind the hello kitty bows celebs and everyone are obsessed with from sanrio 50th and the sephora) who put together this show to celebrate the launch of her new line of adorable accessories, her birthday, guest DJ, contests, Lil’ Rae Cakes, some of the best LA food trucks, free Kirin beer, and just awesome cuteness under its home-base Japan LA haha.  Really, they know how to throw a party!  The art show featured 19 artists that Chubby Bunny enjoyed, so I was super excited to be a part of the event~  other artists included Bei Escobar, Martin Hsu, Luke Chueh, Akira Ebihara, plus many other amazing people.

Lately I have started to feel like bigger is better with my art, so I have hooked up with a new giclee printer and have started to offer my gallery work as much larger wall candies.  I think a lot of detail sometimes gets lost in my smaller pieces, so to see it nice and big is really amazing~ plus a girl swimming in a sea of candy bunnies kind of demands to be a large piece!

Please check out LA Weekly, they featured a photo of my piece and wrote a wonderful article on the show!!

Since I am still in Seoul, Korea I had to miss out attending this event which really made me sulk all evening around the house. Not only is it always fun to attend events you paint something for, but all of my friends go to these and get to dress up all pretty and eat amazing goodies~ gah I miss them!!  If you are in the LA area or can make the drive you must come out for an event sometime, you will not regret it!

♥ The goddess behind the show + new bow goodies ♥

I’ll upload a nice jpg of the digital piece “Miss Gummi Bunni Foo Foo” in my gallery this week, but for now please enjoy the canvas photos!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*

I am SOOOOO INSANELY UPSET that I can not make this event!  It sounds like it is going to be a total blast with awesome bands, art, and OMG Tavuchi will be there!  I had so much fun working on my piece for this show, first sanrio and now this…. I am getting spoiled on these amazing events!  For my piece I chose to pay tribute to the classic magic girls from Studio Pierrot’s series.  Creamy Mami, Fancy Lala, and Magical Fairy Pelisa are all in my piece (plus the token magic side-kicks!)  in one giant wand waving explosion! For the frame I decided to use another ornate frame and trim the border in rainbow sparkle dots plus give the whole piece some extra fine taps of glitter in the right areas.  I really hope this sells and goes to an amazing home, because I just had SO much fun working on it…. I remember being a little girl in my room trying to draw sailor moon at age 9, so its all very nostalgic for me.

My rough concept sketch for this piece from my sketchbook
