Miss Kika X Sanrio 50th
This month I participated in an amazing event!! Sanrio (aka hello kitty) had GIANT birthday bash to celebrate it’s 50th year making adorable characters and goodies ♥ The party was down in LA and part of the main event was an amazing gallery show curated by JapanLA, Talented artists from all over the globe ( Tokidoki, Camilla d’Errico, Buff Monster, Joe Ledbetter, Bei Badgirl, Audry Kawasaki and more) had been invited to create work inspired by and paying tribute to Sanrio~ and I was one of them! Ever since I was a little girl I have always had a special place in my heart for Sanrio products and characters, so to get the honor to make a piece with the characters for such an amazing event with artists I admire… well needless to say I was jumping for joy when I got the invite!
For this show I created 3 pieces~ My large character explosion piece “candy candy kitty dreams” contains just about every character sanrio wished to honor at this event + was an excellent chance for me to use this amazing ornate frame I had thrifted almost 2 years ago… I was saving it for a special show haha. I also created two smaller pieces in custom ornate frames for the characters “spottie dottie” the sweet dalmatian little girl, and the thunder brothers “goropikadon”which are a much older character set, but so adorable!
“Thunder Sisters” Goro, Pinka, Don tribute piece ♥ Still for sale at JapanLA
“Darling Dottie is so Spottie” Spottie Dottie tribute piece ♥ Still for sale at JapanLA
(updated)
I drove down to attend VIP night plus a few other event nights with Nara, what an amazing exp! Nerd Party sponsored by LoungeFly, Hello Kitty Prom, Food trucks… I played and ate for 2 weeks solid! My large piece sold before the VIP showing even started~ apparently 4 people wanted to buy it ♥ aaaah what an honor!!! The response online with the articles and blogs has also been so warm that the gallery and Sanrio allowed me to offer everyone a print series on the “Candy-candy kitty dreams” !
The Giclée prints are 19″x9.5″ and priced at $75 a print~ edition of 100! After a week in LA Nara had to go back to his studio, so I drove back up to SF to drop him off, switch out my luggage, run off my prints, and head back down in time for the signing! It was a happy chaos! Nov 12th I arrived back in LA to have more Sanrio fun and had a wonderful afternoon signing prints and adding special hand details and sparkles to each. It has been a while since I set up a table and got to sign prints, so it was great to meet some new faces and chat with you guys!!
** This edition of 100 SOLD OUT, thank you SO much to everyone that purchased a print! I hope you enjoy the print as much as I enjoyed making it**

Yoka Tour
Few months ago I did a bitty Yoka custom for a show down in LA with DKE Toys. Seems they are going to bring the show to a few locations this spring, so as I hear about them I will add them to the exhibits page for everyone to check out! If you are around a show you really should check it out, custom vinyl shows are always super interesting!
Here is my little guy~ show info at the bottom! As of today he is still for sale, please contact the gallery OR keep an eye on the vinyl section of my web shop to grab him off me when/if he comes back to the studio.
End Time: Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 5:00pm
Location: Black Maria Gallery, Los Angeles CA
DKE Toys co-founders Dov Kelemer and Sarah Jo Marks found over 200 artists to participate in the Custom Yoka Show. Featuring work from 20 countries the show turns the quirky little panda into everything from a dirty thug to a sweet snail in this tremendous exhibition. Pieces range from $25 to $800 and will be available for purchase through Black Maria Gallery.
Show features: Anthony Ausgang, Jophen Stein, Heidi Kenney, Steven Daily, Snaggs, Arbito, Chris Ryniak, kaNO, Itokin Park, Dan Goodsell, olive47, Dacosta!, Chino and literally hundreds more
The Custom Yoka Show is meant to coincide with the release of Yoka Series One, a blind boxed collectible figurine that is now available.
The Custom Yoka Show premiered at Designer Con in Pasadena, California on November 21, 2009. More tour dates, following the Black Maria Gallery exhibition to be announced soon.

MISS show at Upperplayground LA!
Sorry for the long break in updates, the holiday season took over and before I knew it it was Jan! Even if I dont do a journal update I do try and keep the exhibit page up to date though, so check that section or the store for any new gallery pieces that may have popped up
Cool show this month that I was very excited to take part in! M.I.S.S fashion blog and Upper Playground LA ( aka FIFTY24LA Gallery)

For this show I decided to paint a layered piece in the paper doll theme… so the bottom is the figure, and a glass layer above her is the paper clothing! I’m very happy with it, its one of those pieces you can look at from different angles~ but sadly I cant share a high-res photo at this time, just a small sample shot! When the gallery sends out one or I am able to take one myself I will add it to the site and here though! If you are in the LA area please do stop by the show though, it looks like an amazing line up of artists + a very cool theme
Check out a blog about the event in detail + pics HERE!!

Check out the show write-up over at Juxtapoz Magazine!

Painting more little things…
God, its like I’m on a tiny things painting kick! Seriously though, everything is actually for something… its just all small sized! lol!

This week I finally started to work on some new ACEO cards for that section of the online shop! I know money is tight for everyone right now, so these are great if you wanted something one of a kind and hand painted~ but cant swing one of the gallery pieces. All ACEO cards will sell for $19 each, and run 3×4″ on cardstock with various themes as the subject
I managed to finish a set of cards that are fanart of Vocaloid software icons (google it if you have never heard of them, some of the music is amazing for just using a computer to sing!) I was really happy with these, and I guess everyone was too! As of this posting the only two left from the set are the yellow twins! I will try and make more cards soon~ if time allows me anyway!

Also this week I have been working away at my large Qee figure for a show in Ronkonkoma, NY. I will add the show details to my events section this weekend (as well as update it! It needs a good update with new events!!) She is blue snow themed like the “Small Stuff 3″ pieces had been…. just kinda in a blue mood this month I guess. Winter is on the way~ Is it getting cold where you live? It was very hot here, but all of a sudden the chilly breeze came around…. time to buy some new jackets!
PS. I was on livestream a LOT this week because of all the work! If you still want to catch the shows you will need to follow me on twitter~ I decided to remove the archive/on demand content from my livestream because they are just sooooo long and not very fun to re-watch and listen to me talk about things that we brought up in the chatroom, but you can no longer see! lol

New paintings for small stuff 3

Finally added the pieces I was working on last week in my Live stream channel! Every year I have been in the “small stuff” show at Bear and Bird gallery, so this year I decided to hunker down and do the max amount of pieces (5) so more people could have a chance to grab a bitty painting for an affordable price!

I painted each piece with acrylic paint and added details on each with glitter in two sizes, so when it catches the light it looks really pretty! The frames are small 5″ resin ornate pieces that I repainted to match the pieces + added a hook on the back~ so you can display them standing up or hanging up, your choice! I priced each at $99, the same price I do every year for this show. In the past they have sold quickly, so if you are interested in one as this low price your best bet would be to attend the show on the opening night OR contact Bear and Bird ahead of time. After opening night Bear and Bird usually puts the piece online to purchase through the web store, but sometimes its a bit too late and pieces have already sold
The show will be on Nov.22nd – Jan 9th I have added the event to my exhibit section as well as the flier!
