Kittens and Ice cream
Bit of a late post, but I was waiting till all the photos started to appear online before I shared this event with everyone! For JapanLA’s 5th Year Anniversary Party on June 4th(first party at the new giant location on Melrose Ave. in LA!) they had the most amazing event and gallery show with over 500+ people showing up~ “Kittens and Ice cream”! The party was filled with all sorts of contests (like “Craziest Cat Lady”) with prizes donated from San X, Food trucks, goodies, games, and of course~ the art show. Participating artists included Bei Badgirl, Twinkie Chan, Gary Baseman, Camilla d’Errico, Eimi, Buffmonster, and many more! A % of art sales even went to charity to help less fortunate kitties ♥
My contribution to this show was “Pretty Persian Parfait“ which I had printed as a yummy giant giclee canvas (one of a kind)
Title: Pretty Persian Parfait
Medium: Giclee varnished & stretched canvas print
Size: 16″x20″
Price: $600

As usual the girls looked amazing and themed from head to toe!
As of this posting the piece is still for sale, I hope someone can give it a good home~ its stretched so no frame needed ♥
Also, here is a little bonus ♥ ♥ The original sketch concept I started this piece from! You can see more of these and progress shots by following me on my facebook fanpage or twitter ♥

Bunnies and Bows Show
Another amazing event at Japan LA~ the theme? Bunnies and Bows!! This event on ♥ May 7th ♥ was curated by my lovely friend Michelle aka Chubby Bunny (aka the brain behind the hello kitty bows celebs and everyone are obsessed with from sanrio 50th and the sephora) who put together this show to celebrate the launch of her new line of adorable accessories, her birthday, guest DJ, contests, Lil’ Rae Cakes, some of the best LA food trucks, free Kirin beer, and just awesome cuteness under its home-base Japan LA haha. Really, they know how to throw a party! The art show featured 19 artists that Chubby Bunny enjoyed, so I was super excited to be a part of the event~ other artists included Bei Escobar, Martin Hsu, Luke Chueh, Akira Ebihara, plus many other amazing people.
Lately I have started to feel like bigger is better with my art, so I have hooked up with a new giclee printer and have started to offer my gallery work as much larger wall candies. I think a lot of detail sometimes gets lost in my smaller pieces, so to see it nice and big is really amazing~ plus a girl swimming in a sea of candy bunnies kind of demands to be a large piece!
Please check out LA Weekly, they featured a photo of my piece and wrote a wonderful article on the show!! ♥
Since I am still in Seoul, Korea I had to miss out attending this event which really made me sulk all evening around the house. Not only is it always fun to attend events you paint something for, but all of my friends go to these and get to dress up all pretty and eat amazing goodies~ gah I miss them!! If you are in the LA area or can make the drive you must come out for an event sometime, you will not regret it!
♥ The goddess behind the show + new bow goodies ♥
I’ll upload a nice jpg of the digital piece “Miss Gummi Bunni Foo Foo” in my gallery this week, but for now please enjoy the canvas photos!

I am SOOOOO INSANELY UPSET that I can not make this event! It sounds like it is going to be a total blast with awesome bands, art, and OMG Tavuchi will be there! I had so much fun working on my piece for this show, first sanrio and now this…. I am getting spoiled on these amazing events! For my piece I chose to pay tribute to the classic magic girls from Studio Pierrot’s series. Creamy Mami, Fancy Lala, and Magical Fairy Pelisa are all in my piece (plus the token magic side-kicks!) in one giant wand waving explosion! For the frame I decided to use another ornate frame and trim the border in rainbow sparkle dots plus give the whole piece some extra fine taps of glitter in the right areas. I really hope this sells and goes to an amazing home, because I just had SO much fun working on it…. I remember being a little girl in my room trying to draw sailor moon at age 9, so its all very nostalgic for me.

Pray for Japan~ Charity art show + personal note
** UPDATE! MY PAINTING HAS SOLD, THANK YOU SO MUCH! **
I’m sure by now everyone is aware of the terrible situation Japan is in. Japan is a place that is very dear to my heart, when I was a young student abroad I was always treated with such kindness and complete understanding even though I was new to the culture and country.. I’m sure I did many things wrong. Living in Japan and taking classes, art club, etc inspired me to give this art-thing a try when I went into college… and currently I am weeks away from moving to Korea to support my partner’s obligations, and I don’t think I would have the courage and strength to do that as a person if I was not changed so much by my experiences as a student in Japan. It helped make me a better person and (hopefully) allowed me to absorb some of the values they hold dear, things that make it such a wonderful place aside from all the pretty lights and shopping, It is the people that make that place so beautiful to me…. so when I saw this tragedy happen on the news a few nights ago I felt a pain in my heart and sick to my stomach.
Japan needs donations, and every little bit truly does help in times like these~ even $5!
SWEET STREETS has teamed up with JapanLA to a “#PrayForJapan” Art Fundraiser in response to the recent earthquake in Japan. 100% of art sales will be donated to the American Red Cross.
♥♥♥ An opening reception will be held on Saturday March 19, 2011 from 7pm-10pm. ♥♥♥

Title: "Updo Sisters-Bibi" Size: 20"x12" (approx) Medium: Acrylic on wood Price: $350 ♥100% of profit goes to red cross of Japan ♥
I announced originally that I wanted to do a special print to raise funds, but due to the short deadline I decided to send out a favorite piece of mine that I had here in my studio~ An original acrylic painting from my “Let them eat cake“ solo show titled “Updo Sisters: Bibi“! She was one of three sisters, the other two have made it to new homes while I hung onto her… but now I would love for her to go to a home at last and for an amazing cause. I spend all weekend touching it up to make her extra pretty, and I love the piece even more now!

If you would prefer to donate money, it is recommend that you donate to the American Red Cross. There are a lot of unreliable donation requests online now, and not enough info from Japan yet. Visit http://bit.ly/eZJDoJ to donate directly (or text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10).
